Municipal Water Rate Increase Massachusetts and New Hampshire 2013 Update ~ Volume 2

Significant water rate increases in MA and NH may open eyes of homeowners. Often time’s consumers are not aware of the alternative options available when it comes to private utilities. Water wells can be a fantastic avenue to avoid rate increases in the future.  Over the course of a year these increases can really affect your wallet. This is a recap since our last edition of the newest increases our office has noticed. Currently we have found 8 towns with substantial increases to their water rates.

Andover, MA proposed on May 22nd a 2.5% increase to there municipal water rates and an 8% increase to their sewer rates.

Derry, NH is facing a 1% increase effective June 15th the rate is going from $2.147 to $2.50 per 100 cubic feet.

Medfield, MA is suggesting an astounding 25% increase in municipal water rates this town has already seen an astronomical increase of 40% since 2010 according to the Medfield Patch.

 Newton, MA is seeing another rate increase following a 7.7% increase last year this year it’s proposed to go up another 3.9 %

Worcester, MA is proposing a 6% increase to municipal rates as of March 2013.

Newburyport, MA saw a $0.75 increase per thousand gallons effective July 5th 2013.

Revere, MA voted 9-0 a 8.06% increase on municipal water rates in June.

Holliston, MA residents will see a 15% municipal rate increase effective Oct 2013.
